Mobile Storage Brisbane: Your Options Compared
Searching for mobile storage in Brisbane? "Mobile storage", "portable storage" and "storage that comes to you" usually mean a container or module delivered to your home, packed there, then taken away to a yard. It is a handy option for some moves - but it is not always the cheapest or most flexible. Here is how mobile storage works, who it suits, and how Storage Land's drive-up container storage compares.
For peace of mind, your belongings are kept in our fully fenced and gated Archerfield yard, watched over by 30+ security cameras on site.
What is mobile storage?
With mobile storage, a provider drops a portable unit or timber module at your address. You load it at your own pace, then they collect it and store it at their facility. When you need your goods back, they redeliver the unit. The appeal is loading once, with no truck hire and no double handling.
The trade-offs of mobile storage
Mobile storage suits some situations well, but it has downsides worth knowing before you book:
- Access is limited. Once your unit is back at the depot, you usually cannot get to it on demand - you book a viewing or pay for redelivery.
- Delivery and pickup fees. Transport to and from your home is often charged on top of the monthly rate.
- Module size. Portable modules are frequently smaller than a full 20ft container, so a bigger move may need several.
- You wait for redelivery. Grabbing one box can mean booking the whole unit back to your door.
- Space at your end. A module has to sit somewhere while you load it. On a narrow inner-south block, a shared driveway or a unit complex, that is the sticking point rather than the price.
- Access on the day. Delivery and collection happen in a window that suits the truck. If you are on shift work, that is a day off.
- Getting back in. Once the module is at the warehouse, seeing your things usually means booking, and often paying. Ask what mid-term access costs before you sign.
- Loading twice. Some setups mean loading a module, then having its contents handled again at the other end.
The costs that decide it
Mobile storage and drive-up container storage look similar on a price page and behave very differently once you use them.
With mobile storage you are paying for movement. A module is delivered, collected, taken to a warehouse and stored, and each of those legs is priced. Redelivery, if you need to get at your things mid-term, is usually another charge. The convenience is real, and so is the cost of it.
With a drive-up container the movement is your own trips. A private 20ft container here is $349 a month, month to month, with no delivery fee, no collection fee, no bond and no admin fee. You supply the driving.
The drive-up container alternative
If you would rather come and go whenever you like, a fixed container is often the better value option. At Storage Land you rent a whole private 20ft container in Archerfield for $349/month with 24/7 drive-up access - park at the door, open your own lock, and get what you need any time. No redelivery fees, no waiting, no shared corridors. For many Brisbane customers that flexibility outweighs having the unit parked at home.

When mobile storage is the better choice
To be straight with you, mobile storage genuinely suits some people. If you physically cannot get to a storage yard, want to load slowly over several days at home, and know you will not need access until you move again, having the unit delivered to your driveway can be ideal. Storage Land does not offer mobile delivery - we are a drive-up container yard - so if door delivery is essential, a mobile provider may suit you better.
We would rather tell you this than take a booking you regret. Choose mobile if you cannot drive, do not have a vehicle or trailer, are physically unable to do the loading, are moving interstate as part of the same job, or if your time is worth more than the difference. Those are good reasons and the product exists for them.
When drive-up wins
Choose drive-up if you have a vehicle and can make a few trips, if you want to get at your things without booking or paying each time, if your dates are uncertain, or if you simply want the lowest cost per square metre. You get 24/7 gated PIN access, you drive to your own container door, and there is no third party between you and your belongings.
What we do not do
We do not deliver containers to your address. Ours stay on the yard at Archerfield and you come to them. If the container has to be at your place, a mobile or hire operator is the right call and we would rather point you there.
Mobile Storage Brisbane - FAQs
Will you deliver a container to my house?
No. Our containers stay on the yard at 675 Beaufighter Ave, Archerfield, and you drive up to yours. If the container has to come to your address, a mobile storage or portable module provider is the right call and we would rather point you there than take a booking you regret.
Is drive-up storage cheaper than mobile storage in Brisbane?
Usually, because there is no movement to pay for. A 20ft container at Storage Land is $349 a month with no delivery fee, no collection fee, no redelivery fee and no charge to visit. Mobile storage prices the transport in, and every extra trip to the depot is another cost. For comparison, the median standard rate for a similar 12-16 m² unit at self-storage facilities on Brisbane’s southside is $395 a month.
Do I need to book in to get to my things?
No. Access is 24/7 through a gated PIN entry, and you park at the container door. There is no appointment, no retrieval fee and no waiting on a depot to bring your unit back.
How much fits in a 20ft container?
A 20ft container is roughly 6m x 2.4m, about 14 m² of floor and 33 m³ of volume. That takes roughly three to four bedrooms of furniture, so it comfortably covers an average 3-4 bedroom home.
Am I locked into a contract?
No. It is month to month with no lock-in, no bond and no admin fee. If you are leaving, it is 30 days notice and there is no exit fee.
