Most storage marketing blurs these together, and the difference matters. Site security is the boundary: is the yard fully fenced, is it gated, is entry controlled, are there cameras. Container security is what stands between a person already inside the yard and your belongings.
At a traditional facility your unit is usually a partitioned space inside a shared building. The walls often stop short of the ceiling, the corridor is shared with every other customer on that floor, and anyone with a valid access code is already past the boundary.
